Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome - New Pilot

When Caprica had been announced, many of us had hoped that it would be a wonderfully imagined prequel to the revamped BSG. What did we imagine the prequel to be? The answer was obvious with everyone- It should be about young Adama as a viper pilot, as had been seen in some flashbacks in the series. We hoped and dreamed that it would be an action packed series about the first cylon war... then we saw Caprica was nothing like that...

But now what I had hoped for (and some others have as well) has come true:

We already have one Battlestar Galactica prequel series and we soon could be getting a new one. The Syfy network just greenlit a two hour pilot called Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome which will follow a young William Adama as a Viper pilot on the battlestar Galactica during the first Cylon war. So, unlike the other BSG prequel series Caprica, Blood & Chrome will focus more of the action that was prevalent in the reimagined 2004 series that ran for four seasons. Adama, as BSG fans know, was one of the main characters on that show. Portrayed by Edward James Olmos, he’s a legendary military leader who helps the human race survive after the enemy Cylons destroy their home. The new series will see the return of executive producer David Eick, but not show creator Ron Moore.
Hmm, no Ron Moore?

Caprica's ratings are not good so far with the new season 1.5 episodes. SyFy is gonna decide by November 15th if Caprica is going to get renewed. The fact that they announced Blood & Chrome on the heels of stating that Caprica's fate is currently being decided, makes me think that if Caprica gets the axe then Ron Moore could very well just switch over to working on Blood & Chrome. Didn't he do the same thing when his other sci-fi/space show Virtuality got killed in the pilot stage by Fox?

That is of course if he doesn't have another project lined up. I still feel good that David Eick, who was part of the team that made BSG what it was, is still onboard. Also, Michael Taylor, a veteran Galactica writer, wrote the pilot for Blood & Chrome. He also wrote the Razor telefilm. So it this project seems to be in good hands, at least from the get go.

Although, I did read something about them planning to do the Galactica sets as digital backgrounds. Supposedly they tore down all the Galactica interior sets after the show wrapped. I feel that was a bad move. Maybe they should have kept the sets and just done what Blood & Chrome is covering, Cylon War One?

I hope to god it's not digital sets. No matter how good their CG is, nothing beats the feeling of the BSG sets. Especially with something so close quarters. Makes me think of the show Sanctuary, which is all digital backgrounds... and it really shows.

Here's an article I read about the digital backgrounds: http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2010/07/battlestar-galactica.html

Though this article was a while back and it's talking about this series as only 10 minute webisodes.

Hopefully with it being a full 2 hour pilot they'll consider re-building the sets.

This is awesome news!

Perhaps they can make up for the train wreck that was season 4 of BSG.

Loved the series but hated the last season.
