Battery Vs Phantom- Confusion

In the tech specs on a AudioTechnica at897, it states

"Dynamic Range (Typical): Phantom: 112 dB, 1kHz at Max. SPL
Battery: 98 dB, 1 kHz at Max. SPL"

and

"Maximum Input Sound Level :Phantom: 129 dB SPL, 1 kHz at 1% T.H.D. Battery: 115 dB SPL, 1 kHz at 1% T.H.D. "

"Output Impedance Phantom: 200 ohms, Battery: 300 ohms "

What exactly does this mean? I am covering a Concerto recital this sunday and clean audio is a must. Is it more sensitive to sound when phantom powered as it seems to suggest?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Re: Battery Vs Phantom- Confusion

as every back electrect mike , you have some changes in preformers while you suplu dc bias voltage to the capsul , symply that mean that with converted 48 ph voltage you got more proper bias , the 1,5 v battery give you less good preformers

Re: Battery Vs Phantom- Confusion

As a general rule, if you have phantom power available, you should use it. In practice there isn't usually a significant difference between the audio quality of the same mic battery-powered or phantom powered, but the effect may be greater with certain mics. Also, as a battery is used and drops its voltage, the quality of of a recording can be affected.

thank you. Does phantom power use a considerable amount of camera power?
