Hey Guys,

I was on a shoot today and while shooting, the camera shuts off by itself! the battery was full while I was DPing. Flicking on and off, the split second showed the battery was dead! it happened on both batteries (small batteries). Whats the deal?

It was embarrassing

Oh and who here has the lacie firewire ext HD by Porche? any problems with it? how long does it take to start capturing?
me: 10 minutes.... not good at all, I'm talking to lacie about it

Exchange the drive.
AS for the camera. Is it powering down after about five minutes of not rolling tape. If that is the case it is powersave mode and can be shut off in the menu. If it is doing it while rolling tape the it could be something with the battery conection. Check the pins to see if they are OK.

RUN! RUN LIKE THE WIND! It should not take your drive 10 minutes to begin capturing.

I'm with Prarieboy on this one. The Lacie Porsche drives are a nightmare. My workplace purchased upwards of about 20 of them since they came out last year. They have been nothing but a headache. Sure they're sleek, but we've had 18 of them burn out on us... and I'm sure time is just ticking on the last two.

The experience was so bad that Lacie offered to swap out all of our Porsche drives purchased in the past 6 months (working or not) for new drives.

My guess would be that the brilliant design will be discontinued.

I have two D2 disks and one Big Disk, and those have been flawless, it must be a problem with the Porsche design or something.

As far as the camera, what brand are the batteries?
