just bought 2 of these 150 watt utility lights. they are plenty bright and don't use a lot of power.

i have access to a generator, but its a huge huuuuuge hassle to get around, we mainly just use it around the house.

was wondering if i could convert power from a car battery to power these small lights? that would make life a whole lot easier, and would save me a lot of time and space!

thanks

how long do you think a 100W bulb would last with your average car battery? my pops is tellin me it would ware the battery out quick as well and i wouldnt get as much life out of it.

You can take the voltage and the power rating of the bulb (in watts) and use Ohm's Law to calculate the current draw. Batteries are rated in capacity by "amp-hours".

So, for example if you have a 100W lamp, it draws 8.3 amps at 12V. A 250 amp-hour battery will theoretically last 30 hours with that kind of load, but for practical purposes, it is more likely to be around half that duration. You can use this website to calculate volts, watts and amps...
