Battery Powered Phantom Power Supplies

Recording to a device that doesn't supply 48v. There are portable units, typically powered by 9v batteries from a variety of manufacturers. Sennheiser has some that B&H has for around $500. Others start at $40 or so with quite a few between $60-120. So include low pass filters and/or pads.

What are the objective criteria in these devices? Are there any known good ones and bad ones?

Now to decide on my stereo cardioids: modded MXL603s, NT-55s, modded Mk012s (maybe with small and large diaphragm cartridges, or just spend the money and get the KM184s.
