Battery belt....

Is there such as thing a battery belt? that I can use with the HVX and to power other items such as a hard-drive on the move? NRG seems to ring a bell for some reason. I've seen cameramen here in the UK with such items admittedly they are using big shoulder mount cameras.

I used to have an external battery pack for my flash-gun (Quantum Turbo) that was a real boon over AA batteries.

Battery belts are more and more "phased" out. They really were the norm when Lead Batteries were "in". Big and heavy stuff, that required a battery belt in order for it to be carried with "only" moderate amount of pain.

With the advent of new & affordable chemistry, the battery packs became smaller and smaller.

The more recent Lithium Ion (or Li-Ion) packs are considerably lighter, and more user friendly (no memory effect, and they can be recharged at any time during their discharge). So, an on-cam battery is now very common.
Larger Li-IOn battery packs are sometimes mounted on a shoulder support, etc.

But yeah, belts are still available. Here's one:

If you're running anything using 12v as far as I know you still need an extra battery source.
