batteries in mic when using phantom power

If the batteries are in a shotgun mic which is being run on phantom power
will it do any harm or will one power source just override the other.
Also are there any benefits to running a mic on phantom other than a longer
running time (ie not having to change batteries in the mic)

It's normally fine to leave the batteries in - unless you always run from phantom, in which case it's better to take them out.

It depends on the design of the mic. but as standard phantom is 48V you may get better performance running from phantom - but this does depend on the design of the mic.

I have a NTG-2 too and asked the rode support the same question. They say it is okay to leave the battery in but if it´s too weak it might introduce some crackle. To avoid that you take it out. I find my mic to be noticeably more sensitive if I run it off of phantom power.
