Batteries And Firewire

Hey Guys, I just found this forum, and I am a new HVX user (converted from XL2) and I am really excited about this camera. Everything about it from it's shape and design to the features really blow the XL2 away.

I have a couple questions...

1. Is the HVX compatible with DVX batteries? What is a good website to learn about the correct batteries to purchase?

2. Is it possible to record HD footage directly into a laptop, then stored into my Lacie external Hard drive WITHOUT purchasing P2 cards? It seems to shoot HD you absolutely have to buy the P2 cards and a companion Firestore or something... but please enlighten me if I'm wrong.

Thanks,
Henry

1. Yes the batteries are compatible. And on this site you'll get a lot of recommendations for the DVXUser 5600mah batteries; at $79 they're about half the cost of the OEM batteries and last a bit longer too. There's a banner for ordering them at the bottom of every page.

2. Yes, you can go direct to a laptop, provided you have a capture program that's compatible. Avid XPress Pro HD on the PC, FCP 5.0.4 on the Mac, or Canopus Edius Broadcast can all do it. You have to make sure your hard disk is fast enough, etc. Robert Lane has some good discussion on capturing to a powerbook over on dvinfo.net.
