Batman now a trilogy?

So before the final Harry Potter flick they showed a teaser for Dark Knight Rises and, um, they're saying now that the Nolan films are a trilogy and that this will be the final of said trilogy.

I found it doubly interesting that like the only action sequence they chose to show was of Batman fighting Bane in the rain on a rooftop, and when Batman originally fights Bane, in the rain, on a rooftop -- :::SNAP::: Bane wins.

This would certainly be a first for the genre, but it's certainly possible that we could see Batman go down in this final flick.

It's also funny because in the Batman and Robin movie they alluded to the moment when Bane breaks Batman's back but then Clooney gets out of it by pulling Bane's plug. It would certainly be something pretty daring if they went the other way this time.

Maybe it'll have an X-men Last Stand style ending. Only instead of it being Magneto barely moving that chess piece, it'll be Bruce Wayne barely wiggling is big toe.

;)

The rumor was his back would be broken in this one and he'd come back after recovery...Gordon definitely gets messed up...

I'm not a sheeple. Don't get me wrong, it is an ok movie franchise, but too diluted. And then there is the way that Nolan has decided it is "his" universe to muck with, and not about Bob Kane's character. It could have been so much better.

And as far as "mumble and mope" Bale, I've seen more interesting character out of a wilted house plant. 3:10 to Yuma is a good example. The Villain was far more interesting than the Hero.

I don't think Bale's Batman is incredible, but he is one of the best and most underrated (until recently) actors alive. The Machinist, American Psycho, The Fighter, Rescue Dawn...few actors an dig as deep as he can. Batman is just not his best character.

Just my opinion, though - he's a better Batman than Clooney, Kilmer, or Keaton.

I guess the question that's on everyone's mind would be -- What do you consider a good comic book adaptation franchise?

I know it's fun to think that Bob Kane and Stan Lee had it all figured out, but honestly Batman wasn't a great character until the mid-80s with The Dark Knight Returns, and the Xmen didn't get going until Giant Sized 94 (also in the 80s).

I didn't feel like Nolan deviated away from the "source" material any more than any other franchise.

Is it possible you're not liking it just because everyone else likes it?

I mean, honestly, I can't think of a better adaptation except *maybe* the original Superman flick. The first Rami Spiderman flick is "faithful", essentially, to the source material, and it's not in the same league as Nolan's Begins.

The batmobile is now in my city. Excellent.

Yeah usually we always see all the Batman stuff here chugging around Chicago, but maybe Transformers' sets just overtook everything.

I wonder if they're going to use previous footage that they've shot in and around Chicago in this newest flick.

Batman was a detective genius, that was who he was, not so much in this. Fox and Wayne tech is now his brain, he's still a little smart and a bit of a detective but mostly he's an action hero. but I don't want to get into my opinions of this as that is all they are opinions, and I don't want to challenge anyone else interpretation of the movies as I am not a huge fan of them.

don't get me wrong the second was an amazing movie, just not a batman movie. And yes these are the best looking and put together comic adaptations, but far from the most faithful(sin city, hell boy?, 300-not Superman or spiderman both had major changes, webs, pa kent). Now this is all fine and well as many seem to like it and it was a success. but by that same notion it should be fine for people to not like it and feel like it is too far away from their batman to like. As you said there have been many batmen over the years, and we each have gotten to know the character through our own venue so who is to say which is right or wrong, we are all entitled to our batman.

At least I have the animated movies that are still coming out with him as the batman I like, It would just be nice to see the true batman for once in live action. Perhaps if and when they ever do a justice league movie then we will see the batman I like as Nolan's batman does not fit in the universe of super villains (at least super powered one's) and space invaders and mighty hero's.

Though i will still see this movie, and enjoy it, I dream of a day when I can see my batman in a movie. Have a good one!

Yeah, I prefer the animated series (and especially the 4th season and the PG13 version of Return of the Joker) to any of the incarnations that have been put on the screen, and in a bizarre way I actually *enjoy* Batman Returns more than I do any other Batman live action flick (I'm a sucker for Tim Burton and lots of snow).

To me, the newest straight to DVD DC animated films (sans Wonder Woman which was awesome) aren't really doing it for me. I've always been a Marvel person (primarily Xmen) simply because I've always found the DC stuff to be more fantasy than sci-fi, and with the Batman comics there were just plain too many of them when I was reading comics on a weekly basis. Nowadays I pretty much just read Buffy, Ultimate Spiderman and Powers, and those I only buy in hardcover or collected editions.

With the Kevin Conroy Batman (which is still going strong on Young Justice), I was able to enjoy Batman as a linear and complete character. In the comics he's just always been too big and as invulnerable as Superman.

I agree that if they were to come out with a noir-style Batman that was actually set in the 40s, that would probably best anything that's ever come before or since. I think Burton sort of suggested a by-gone era when he made his two Bat films, but to truly put the technology and the man in a pre-computer age would be something really special.

I doubt we'll ever see it, though. I think the best chance we have of a really direct translation of the Batman mythos would be in a Batman Beyond film.
