batch export

is there a way with premiere pro 1.5 or 2.0, to export a few timlines as a batch so I can set it and forget about it. This feature was available in premier 6.x but I cant seem to find anything like it in premiere pro.

Batch export was dropped with Premiere Pro for some unexplained reason. That it did not return in 2.0 is my biggest disappointment with the new release. :(

I really don't understand it. I consider it a very fundamental feature for an NLE that want's to call itself 'Pro'. I don't have time to babysit the encoding process. All I can figure is that dropping it was part of Adobe's licensing agreement with Mainconcept since Mainconcept sells a standalone encoder that has a batch queue as it's main feature. I don't like that setup as it requires rendering out to an intermediate file before encoding.

Hi Eg and Teledan - the answer to your question is maybe - if you have the complete production studio - i found a way to accomplish this via the dynamic link function - it has some quirks - but it worked for me.

If you want me to type up a tutorial - no problem. Just wanted to find out if you had the complete studio.

Peace!

Hey dewman,
Wow, you've certainly peaked my interest and, yes, I have the studio setup. If it wouldn't take long to write a tutorial, that would be most welcome. What are the quirks/limitations?
Thanks,
Dan

If it is important to you I think there is three workarounds.

First two made easier if you export an avi first ( ie. a sub master)

One - Import avis into an After Effects Project and put them in the Render Queue.

Two - Buy the Standalone version of the Main Concept MPG Encoder and that can batch encode fro the avis. It is very fast and has some additional features (like appending the encodes to one output)

Third option - try a Dynamic link from PremPro to AE , then the render queue process.

Shooter's right...the third option is what i've been using. In the past u could do this all in AE, but atleast for me it's not as simple as in PP/NLE.

The dynamic link function works to an extent...but has some quirks...it does safe time, though. When I used a simple dither dissolve that i applied, never showed up in the dynamically linked comp. Constant gain was also missing.

I just took a look at Main Concept product...pretty in expensive for what it does, but unfortuantly it limits you to MPEG 1 and MPEG 2 Export...seems pretty limited for me since all of my vids are web based.

I appreciate the alternate suggestions but as I explained earlier, I prefer a workflow that does not involve an intermediate file and another generation in the render process. I haven't had time to explore the dynamic link stuff yet but plan to. It would have helped with the project I'm currently working on but didn't want to switch horses in th middle of the stream, so to speak.
Thanks,
Dan

Anyone found an easier way of doing this yet? I have a semi-urgent deadline to meet... I'm half asleep as it is and I really don't want to have to wait up all night waiting for one sequence to export so I can start the next (I have about six around 20 min long each - some with effects).

I'm a little hesitant to go through AE because I'm using a lot of dissolves etc.

I stumbled across this little application: http://www.homedvd.ca/contact/software/premiere_pro_batch_export/

It supposedly works with 1.5 but I've read on other boards it doesn't work on 2.0... gah.

You'd think batch export would be a pretty standard feature on NLE's... what gives adobe?
