batch capture problems

Can you elaborate more on your problem please. Have you already logged your tape? Where are you trying to select batch capture from (log and capture window, menu bar, right click menu in browser)? Finally, when looking to try and batch capture, if at that same time you open the log and capture window, does it say VTR Okay, or at the very least Not Threaded? If it says No Communication, then there's your problem (FCP doesn't see your VTR).

If you've already done a log and capture, select the clips in the browser, right click, then go to Batch Capture.
