Basic lighting setup

I would like to add a little bit of variety to my footage, because right now I just use what's available, and I'll occasionally use color correction or filters. When I shoot on location, I live off the good graces from others, so a large setup would probably piss off the owner...

Can you be more specfic? What kind of set ups are you shooting.....interviews in homes ? other ? What format are you shooting in, and what are you trying to accomplish ? Thanks

Lighting for short films shot on the DVX in 24fps.

Definitely get lights, but first I would recommend going to Borders and buying a few books on lighting. With the knowledge they bring, you will be better able to decide what pieces of equipment.

My budget is probably $500 or less, and whatever items fall into that category need to be portable (I drive a Dodge Stratus!) and fairly unobtrusive.
