Basic FireStore question

I hope not to get pummeled for asking such a basic question... but after reading several posts I haven't been able to really understand if the FireStore (eg. FS100P) is capable of recording DVCPRO while it's being acquired.

Is it possible to have an HVX200 without any P2 cards in it and record 720/24pN video straight into the FS via FireWire connections?

Thanks, Martin

You can record live from the camera. What you cannot do is put the camera itself in a native (PN) mode and record that, because in native modes the camera doesn't send any data out through the DV port.

With V3.0 of the FS-100 firmware, the FS-100 can remove the duplicate frames on-the-fly, giving you the equivalent of being able to record PN modes.

Thanks a lot THoff.

So to do 720/24pN I would need at least 1 P2 card... record video to the P2... and only then transfer to the FireStore.

Do you think the final result from the on-the-fly drop of frames is visually/artistically equivalent to the 24p native acquisition?
