Basic film SLR to Buy

Hello guys, I have a great Nikon lens collection but no camera. I was curious what a great vintage camera is.

I don't need all the bells and whistles, just a film camera that takes great pictures. I plan to expose and focus manually at all times.

I have not had any experience with film slr bodies in the past, so does picture quality all hinge on the lenses?

Any help would be nice. I am looking for quality and very low price.

I use my N55 for everything, and most of the stuff in my portfolio was taken with it, though its a very automatic camera.
 
I actually got a great deal on a chrome FE2. Thanks guys for thte responses, the n55's looked nice as well. I spent all yesterday doing research and homework on what camera does what. I had no idea that there were so many models in my price range. You might be seeing more of me in this area of dvxuser because now I am shooting still photography!
