Basic Compression Question

I know your DV footage is being compressed when you initially capture. But when you do some edits and render at LOSSLESS Avi your not losing anything more are you?? Say you do some cutting and color correction, render to AVI, and then take into AE for some additional work.

You're not losing anything at capture. You're getting it exactly as it is on tape. Compression happens before recording.

Theoretcially, rendering to uncompressed means you don't lose anything additional. You may not see that in practice, though.

So-called "lossless" video codecs are usualy compromised in some way. Why not use Dynamic Link or simply copy and paste from PP to AE?

Ah, I see. So having an expensive video capture card doesn't help with DV footage as it is all digital anyway? Better camera, better image.

Yes, in the PP to AE example that would be better. I've been reading about Sorrensen Sqeeze and apparently a 3rd party program like that does a better job at rendering than the built-in ones of Premeir or AE.

If you Export an AVI from PPRo, ensure that the "Recompress" box is unchecked in the Export>Video setting. (It is on by default)
