Basic Composite Imaging

This might sound like a very amateurish question, but I want to set up a shot where only an object appears on the screen over a black background and other objects will also superimpose over it at the same time over the same black background. Does anyone know how to do this in an efficient way? I was thinking of shooting each object separately over a black background of some kind, turn the black space into transparent space (so only the object remains on the video layer), and repeat for the rest. Does this sound about right?

Re: Basic Composite Imaging

You'd be best shooting your objects against a green screen if you're shooting DV. That way, if you try to use a keyer to remove a black background, you're not dipping into your shadows and ruining your key.

This effect can be done in most NLE's

Re: Basic Composite Imaging

I dunno... given other recent discussions here, this sounds like it might be an ideal setup for luma keying rather than chroma. I haven't tried it yet, but if your objects are brighter than your background, it may be the way to go...
