I am learning my vegas (to edit my feature) right now.
Basic question: after i have my rough cut - what do I do? Render it right? I want to have a dvd with my film and another copy on dv tape ....
So, to have the best quality movie on dvd - how should I render my rough cut?
And, to have the full resoultion copy on the dv tape - how should I render it?

I was shooing on panny 100Ae (pal) with anamorphic adapter.
Thanks

Re: basic but important ...

To render back out to Dv tape won't be a problem. Just go to tools, and then "print to tape". It will then render through your footage (make sure you use the PAL DV template). Make sure your camera or deck is hooked up, and record away. Now, the DVD is going to be more of a problem, unless you are looking at making a PAL DVD. You will need a program like DV film Atlantis to properly convert your PAL footage to NTSC standards.
ARe you planning a film blow up?

Re: basic but important ...

OK, I thought that if I render my PAL project as avi for windows - (cd not dvd yet) - I thought that everybody who will put this cd into computer cd drive will be able to read it. Am I wrong? I mean, people in USA will not be able to play PAL CD on their computer?

Thanks,

Re: basic but important ...

Yes, I am in New York but shoot with Pan DVX100ae which is PAL. It is because I shoot features and have pal deck, vegas edits pal and have atlantis to convert to NTSC (for american film festivals) and pal movie is ready for european film festivals.
On top of that, some distributors told me that if they like the movie on the festival (anywhere in the world) and it is shot digital - they hope it was shot on PAL because of better (20%than NTSC digital) resolution. They say it really matters when they want to make a dv to film transfer.

So, that's why I shoot with PAL.

Re: basic but important ...

A computer will not differenciate between PAL or NTSC. For that purpose, on a computer you should not have any problem.

Re: basic but important ...

I have 5 minutes long material with just few dissolves between shots.
How to burn a cd? (pal widescreen)

After I saved edited material what do I do next? How do I render?

Thanks.

Re: basic but important ...

i just dont know what to do to prepare (render) this material so I can have it on cd...

Re: basic but important ...

It sounds like you're trying make a VCD, which isn't what you should do.

You should render as AVI and use a different program to burn the AVI fiile to CD as data.

AVIs can get pretty big, though, so watch that. You get less than 700MB on a CD.

Or, you can burn it as data to a DVD.

Re: basic but important ...

Should I go to: Render as ... and than Save as type: Video for WIndows (avi). And Template: Pal widescreen?

But why it says that it will be lower field first? I thought it should be "none- progressive scan"....

After I render as avi to which program should i transport rendered file to burn a cd?

Re: basic but important ...

Rather than rendering it as an avi file, you might want to render it as an mpeg2 file. My DVD software (DVD Complete) will convert avi's, or accept mpeg2 without conversion (makes creation of DVD's much faster.)

You can still burn a data CD with the mpeg file, it will be smaller (usually) and most people's computers can still play it. Saves you time unless you need a really need it in an avi file (not sure why you would though).
