Basic audio set-up

Heck yeah, Im starting this company, "Rent-an-Oleg". Havent spoke to him yet, but it involves a cannon, a parachute and an 0800 number.

I think its a winner.

Thanks, MattinSTL for your complement. Two things I have noticed on this board, and others: "pro" replyers often overestimate the knowledge of the people who ask really simple (sometimes downright stupid questions, not this one, more about this later), often it is best to walk thru the basic prosedure to help them out. Not just throw something highly detailed and even "religious" at them, which will just confuse them.

Another thing is the loudness of "religious" posters. I see myself more as a pragmatist. I have had a ME66 for 6 years, it has served me well. There are better choises there (now), but I'll change when there is a real need, not just to fulfill a gear freak satisfaction. I feel there are a number of those around who do not do much filming but more comparason testing and salivating over manufacture's net pages. If quality really was our #1 thing, we would not be shooting with miniDV, would we?

OK, a third though, totally off topic: there are a surpricing number of first time posters who have bought "the best" miniDV camera, and are totally clueless about EVERYTHING tecnical. This is reflected in questions like "I have twidled with all the buttons on my new DVX100 and have no idea what the buttons do but I get no good video?" That must be a byproduct of a (too) high standard of living in the US...

About the clipping issue: let the first poster first get the sounds into his camera as goos as possible with the present gear. If problems arise, then sell him mixers, attenuators and whatnot. Let's start simple.

The NG documentary is part of the series "Into the Unknown" called "Into the Forgoten Valley". It tells about a 7 week montaineering & geographical expedition to the Kun Lun mountains in the northern edge of the Tibetan plains. Shot mostly with a TRV-900 & ME66.

Hey petrus,

that was an exceptionally eloquent and thoughtful post. however, your spelling stinks. but that's cool, kind of gives it a folksy charm.

Hey you can't bust the guy's balls for leaving out one "t".

Also I'd hoped I was clear in saying that I like both in-depth and simple advice... and you gotta' answer to what the other person will hear. The wrench in the works was the term "broadcast" and so both complex and simple answers are appropriate.

I still can't get over how cool it is that we're spread all over the world like this.

Hey George that's funny... but seriously Petrus what's the documentary? The title I mean. I have never understood why some of the pros on these boards will use a project as an example and then spare us the details.

Even though this is an audio thread I think that could be more helpful then anything else because then we can actually get your point by listening.

Also I wanted to compliment you on your first reply. That was very well stated and concise. I wish I had that talent.
 I second that. I'd like to check out your work also. As far as the comments about cheap vs quality, most of us have to work within our budget. Thanks for your post.

I think I'm going to go to the "Pet Peeves" thread and add

PEOPLE THAT SIGN ON TO DISCUSSION BOARDS, DON'T CONTRIBUTE ANYTHING, BUT WANT YOU TO VISIT THEIR WEBSITE!"

Now resolve may make fine films. But I'll probably never know. Just as I think it's rude to walk in a room where a conversation is taking place amongst a group a people and announce "Hey, everybody, look at what I did!" so I think it's rude to have your first two posts on a discussion board being posting on two different threads "Check out my stuff!".

I completely agree with you Joe. The only time that is acceptable is when you walk into a room to show someone that what you just dropped in the toilet loops all the way around and touches itself... Now that is always a good time.

Wow... College was almost 10 years ago and I miss it.
