basic audio questions and J + L cuts

Hi!

There must be a simple answer to this, but after you "detach audio", how do you reattach it??

Also, what's the best way to achieve J and L cuts? Detach, do the cuts, then reattach? Anybody have any experience and can offer some of there insight?

Generally, i'm finding audio a bit of a pain.

HI,

I don't think you need to detach the audio- just select the clips you are interested in and use CTRL S to expand the audio (or right click and choose expand audio/video) Or turn it on for all clips simultaneously with View->Expand Audio?video clips-> for all.

Any of these shows the audio, still linked to its video, but separately in the timeline. Then you can just drag the audio cut around separately from the video cut. (Doubtless you can do the actual split edit of the audio with the keyboard too but I've not got that deep into the program yet!)

I think that is likely to be a better way than detaching.

Cheers, Hywel

S and Cntrl+S are skimming options.

Double click a clip over it's lower audio portion, and the video/audio segments separate. Then you can trim the In/Out points of each separately to make J & L cuts. Double-click the audio portion again, they come back together and edit together. It's similar to the Linking function in legacy FCP versions.
