Re: Barry's Anamorphic Adapter Printed Guide

might be a silly question : does it apply only to Panny's AG-LA7200G or to all third party adaptors (if availalbe) as well ?

Re: Barry's Anamorphic Adapter Printed Guide

Depends on how those potential third-party adapters operate. Since none exist and only one is announced (Century's), and since Century's is supposed to have a separate focusing element, I'd say that the guide is likely to prove specific to Panasonic's. The addition of Century's focusing element may make enough of a difference in workflow as to render some of the techniques in the guide unnecessary, and demand different workflows.

But, again, Century's adapter isn't out yet, and who knows when it may ever come out? And at $2,000 MSRP it'll be twice as expensive as Panasonic's -- will there be enough market demand to support it? I for one am quite optimistic about the results that Century's adapter could produce -- for that price, and with the reputation of Century and their parent company (Schneider Optics) I have high hopes that it could be a superb product.

Re: Barry's Anamorphic Adapter Printed Guide

wow. thanks for the industrial insight.

I don't feel silly for holding out on Panny's adaptor now.

I love Schneider's optics, albeit my one and only experience with those are on my Rollei film camera.

Re: Barry's Anamorphic Adapter Printed Guide

no electronic version?? since it is only 20pages :( Could pay and get it home immediately. Just a suggestion.

Re: Barry's Anamorphic Adapter Printed Guide

Does this Century adapter really make any sense for $2k? I love my DVX, but unless Canon REALLY screwed up the XL2, would anyone really want to spend their $5k on a DVX and an adapter instead of true 16:9 and interchangeable lenses? I'm just saying...

Re: Barry's Anamorphic Adapter Printed Guide

I don't know if the Century adapter makes sense at the $2000 price point or not. I wonder how many people would buy it, but I guess we'll see. Seems quite expensive, a $2000 accessory for a $3400 camera. I'm expecting it to be an absolutely superb product, and I'm not saying it's not worth $2000, I just wonder what the market acceptance of such an expensive accessory would be (especially when people are trying to save a dollar or two per tape!)

Maybe the Century lens would be a high-demand rental item?
