ENIGMACODE

Hello Barry & Fellow Users

I'm a 65 year old DVX user; have been working with DVX exclusively on a WWII documentary for the past 8 years.

I've learned the hard way; balancing #2 of these cameras together, (if settings are incorrect or sloppy), can be a nightmare.

ONE QUESTION:
On page 56, Barry refers to 'Frame Drop', (if used), obviously MUST be set to BOTH CAMERAS. Was Barry referring to 24P? Yes? I believe he was. I ONLY use 24P and NOT in the advanced mode.

FYI, On another note, sometime ago, I found an inexpensive reliable workflow/software to add this same effect, (24P), if the footage of any other camera, needs a 24P appearance. Its called DVFilm Maker. Its simple, easy, and when used, matches the 24P appearance of the DVX100B.

Thanks

He's referring to timecode: Non-Drop Frame (NDF) vs. Drop Frame (DF) timecode. If you want to synch timecode between two DVX100Bs, they must be set to the same, either NDF or DF.

In 24p mode, it's always NDF, no matter what the menu setting is. So if both cameras are shooting 24p, they're both using NDF timecode.

Separate question -- why do you not use 24pA?

Nice to see you. Thanx for answering my question. Why don't I use 24P Advanced? The short answer is; unfortunately I had initial limited knowledge after my 1st $10,000 re-creation 8 years ago, and was ill-advised. Since 2009, I do all my own shoots now and need to stay with what I started = 24P, (for consistency).

Well, how are you editing all of this stuff? That's the most important question. If you've started a massive project and have been editing everything on a 60i timeline and need to continue with that, then yeah, you should continue shooting 24p standard, because that's what the edit calls for.

But if you're editing segments separately, and can switch to editing the footage on a 24p timeline -- that's your better bet. You'll still have all the same export options.

If you're worried about consistency of appearance, it's not a concern -- both 24p standard and 24p Advanced look exactly the same.

I mention it only because you can get the most out of the DVX by shooting 24pA.

David, I would love to switch gears, can't do that if the appearance or method of editing will change. I'm most familiar with FC6. Thank you again. My biggest regret in 2007 was being talked into 4:3. I should have used Squeezed mode, or Wide. I guess its a matter of appeal. My eye would rather deal with Bars Top n Bottom, Letter Box, as opposed to Bars (Left-Right), 4:3

However I've been told repeatedly, the content/story is what always matters. This project, 8 years and counting, is superior to anything on the History Channel.

Hello there ..

Interviews of more than 65 WWII veterans including authors and researchers. The audience will be local PBS & Indie networks accross the country, and DVD sales online.

Already have commitments from a few networks ...

I will need to Up Res the final 90 minute project. It will more than likely be done thru a HARDWARE process as opposed to something like 'Instant HD' which I've used before.

Thank you
