Barndoors on a halogen worklight

i'm sure a lot of people will appreciate this, as this is probably the #1 concern about using worklights
thanks!

Yes, that's true. They all have that glass primarily to guard against UV so it's not a good idea to take it out permanently if you are putting on barndoors. On my fluorescent conversions it doesn't matter--no noticeable UV from fluorescent tubes.

Its a little more tricky if you're leaving glass in than if taking it out but not impossible. Here's what I would do (admittedly its more trouble though).

Take the glass out temporarily and of course the halogen bulb too. Use the method of attaching the hinges with self-tapping sheet metal screws. Drill all the holes through hinges and into fixture as far back on the frame as possible (to leave room for the glass which is going back in). Put the glass back in now. Then attach the hinges to the worklight frame with the 1/2" 6-32 sheet metal screws. Do all this with the frame open so you can see how the screws are coming in relation to the glass. You don't want them hitting the glass if you can avoid it. After all this is done then just attach the barndoors to the hinges, put the halogen bulb back in and close the frame and you're ready to go.
