Two years ago I spend a lot of time reading and learning from DVXuser. Nowadays I read through some of the sections once a week. Back then, DVXuser Aschu (Aaron Schultz) made some 'basement sets'. I thought of doing something like that too. 'Cause I know quite a lot of musicians who are eager to perform and hoping to reach more audience (and so forth). It took a year to find my 'way to do it', and yesterday I had a shoot with two musicians. The sesions are going to be 'barncamsessions' because as my partner and me are doing/building something around horses/barncams. I thought of creating a small subdevision of the website (not there yet) and dedicate that to artistic and somewhat non-profit musicvideo's. Record them in one of the many stables we have access to, etc. But these two sessions -we did at once- are pre-barncamsessions. It's more like a proof of concept and the well known 'lets just do it!' (after a year of messing up a start of the project.) My goal is to have a session every two months.
This is the formula: musician prepares a song or piece of music that is his or her own creation or co-creation. We record that only two or three times in one piece. Camera on tripod, but not fixed. We choose the best version and if possible, use some of the other sessions video. Result should be a pretty registration of an artist performing. Sound being leading, visual being uplifting.
And do I have a pre-barncamsession for you here, now? No. Sorry. The audio-guy is working on the audiorecording, and I have only captured the recording on my computer. But I did make a small teaser. It's more for the friends and family of the musicians (two different groups) and my friends, family and incidental followers (might be a handfull). The BTS camera that I also (deliberately) used for teaser-footage is a simple MiniDV JVC camera.
I will post the first session below, once it's finished. We have no deadline, but agreed upon somewhere the next one or two weeks.
And of course: I am very interested in comments that would help me become better in producing, directing and filming these kind of things (and beyond...).
