Barber Tech Steddiepod Stabilizer

Hey guys,

So after a few months of working with the Glidecam HD-2000 I decided to sell it which I did. So I'm looking for a new stabilizer to add to my gear & I came across the Steddiepod. It had a somewhat convincing 26 minute demo video talking about how it works, sample footage, etc.

I was just wondering & hoping someone on here owns one. Would anyone be able to tell me about it? Is it effective, etc?

It has multiple uses such as boom, tripod, stabilizer, doggy mode, etc. I really just want info on the stabilizer portion of it. Can anyone help?

Hey Bli,

I can say with certainty, that this unit rocks. I've used it on several Music video shoots, and fight sequences (where motion is key) and yeah...saved my bacon multiple times. Balancing is quick, easy, and very simple. Balancing a DSLR takes a bit of finessing due to the center of balance not being where they have the threaded port, but that only takes me an extra 20 seconds to compensate for. Where are you located? I'm in the Glendale, CA area, and if you'd like you can swing by my place with your camera. We can throw it on there, and you can take a test drive so to speak. I mostly work as B-Unit on shoots, but invariably, the DP and 1st Camera end up using my SteddiePod to take a bunch of shots.

The manufacturer says they recommend no more than 6 lbs on it, but you can go to 8 lbs, it really depends on how long your arm can hold out really.

And that was with little to no practice; I'm sure someone with better skills could get even better results. I don't think it's the greatest stabilizer in the world, obviously, but for what it is, at its price, with its versatility, and with its feather weight, I do think it's a great all-around product, like a Swiss Army Knife. There are better knives, there are better screwdrivers, there are better saws, but the Swiss Army Knife does it all in a small
compact size. That's kind of how I feel about the SteddiePod.

Glad you liked the shots!

I'm checking to see if anyone else has had problems with the barber boom.
I purchased a barber boom 16' with remote head. After receiving and assembling it, it was evident that it had some design flaws as it does not operate correctly. Within a week after receiving the Barber Boom i called the company to return it.
They said they do not take returns. Nowhere on there website of during any conversations with them is there statements of nonreturnable. They finally agreed to return 60% of the purchase price.
Has anyone had these problems with the Barber Boom Company?

What kind of experience have you had with it?

Would you recommend it over all the other stabalizers?

I've had very positive experiences with it. I like the versatility and the ability to quickly transition between shot styles. Some people might fixate on the fact there there is no Gimbal per se, but I see it as a bonus, as I have more control over the unit, and have better control over the unit as a whole. Plus, being able to balance it quickly, and make adjustments for differing lenses in seconds is a great thing as well.
