Baraka

Yeah, one of my favs. The filmmaker actually invented a bunch of gear to get some of the shots for the film. And took years if I remember.

I love the footage in the chicken factory. What an eye opener.

Oh man - don't get me started on this film, f-kin amazing! The slow dolly shot into the indian mans face and the slow zoom into the back head of the japanese man - you can't get better than that.

Yes they really knew what they were doing, he was right when he said nothing is better than 16:9 70mm, wow I would love too see that film remastered in HD when Blu-Ray becomes available.

Naw, I'd like to see it in imax.

like it was meant to be seen.

I've seen this film a dozen times and never seen it projected.

when i saw the title of the thread i thought it was about the character Baraka from Mortal Kombat lol

Glad I'm not the only one!
Heck, I've got a Mortal Kombat 2 arcade unit in my living room that my wife bought me for our 1st wedding anniversary. I don't think I've played it in 3 years!

that's awesome! i love Mortal Kombat (the games not the movies). The original is awesome and Mortal Kombat Deception is just as cool. There's a story mode with it that you do missions and stuff and your character grows throughout the story. Very cool

My girlfriend watched this film in one of her classes a few weeks ago, and I thought the SAME THING.

um... hijack?
i saw this in real 70 projection, must have been two years ago at least. yep, everything everyone else said is true.

I just came from my favorite local second-hand DVD store and stumbled across a Blu-Ray of Baraka that was mastered by scanning the original 70mm film to 8K and then going out to 1080p. WOW!!! Can't wait to get this home and see what it looks like. I didn't even know the film was releasing on Blu-Ray.

It's a good day.....

You guys should check out Chronos, also by the director of Baraka, Ron Fricke. It is short, clocking in at about 40 mins. but it is amazing. I just ordered the Blu-ray from Amazon. I'll let you all know how good the transfer is when I get it.

As for MK Baraka, he was an awesome Mortal Kombat character. One of my favorites. Was he in any of the MK films?

Just to follow up, I watched Baraka this weekend and it is hands down the best looking Blu-Ray I've ever seen. My living room is not as sharp and crystal clear as the images on this disc. You could notice the increase in quality immediatley, though I think it's safe to say that it comes from shooting 70mm ... but the 8K scan didn't hurt. :)

Anyone know a fix for the freeze up in chapter 18? I'm on my third copy of the Blu ray disk and they all freeze at this point. It is well documented on the net.
