Bar Mitzvah

Hey, I'm a first time poster here but I've been reading stuff for like 3 months, and I really want to join this community. So my question, you all seem to know whats going on, is this: I'm filming a Bar Mitzvah this March, mainly because I need a little money for my next movie, and also cause it's a family friend.

Anyway, I'm planning on getting a Dvx. This wont just be for Bar Mitzvah's it will be for movies too. So with that in mind, should I get the 100, or 100A, and what filters and stuff will I need to make the Bar Mitzvah and films to come look like the stuff I see on this site?

Thanks a lot

Re: Bar Mitzvah

I’ll offer only this since there are lots of people here with far more experience and knowledge than me regarding this…

(*) If your budget allows, I would definitely get the 100A. Panasonic did a good job of listening to their users and adding enhancements over the 100. The 100 is a great camera and there are several people here that use it and love it but the 100A would be my option if you’re in a “start-out” position.

(*) Tripod: Sounds simple and obvious but it will go a long way toward the look and perceived professionalism of your final product imo. Run and gun is necessary obviously in some cases but lock it down when you can and your choice of tripod is important.

(*) Matte box and filters: There’s a lot of info on this board and many other sites as to why you need them and under what circumstances (NDs, etc). Your working environment will dictate one sort or another in addition to the “standards” (again, NDs are used heavily but you may want a look or find a situation where another type or combination is needed) Here are a few with some basic explanations http://www.centuryoptics.com/products/filters/index.htm

Anyway, welcome to the board and good luck  :)
