Banquet Hall Video

I'm looking for some tips on how to shoot a venue to showcase the venue specifically.... But to not have it look like a boring corporate 3D tour video. Any tips?

I used to do this for a living when I shot wedding videos. The key here is to help show what the venue CAN be. Get shots of it all setup for a wedding reception, birthday party, or any special gathering that the hall does. Then get shots of people enjoy themselves at the hall, shots of the wait staff serving a very happy couple, people dancing, the cooks doing some awesome stuff while cooking. Show how good the food looks and a variety of meals. Basically you have to show people how they can visualize themselves there. The thing that banquet halls don't get is that if they just show the room as it is empty and no one enjoying it, then customers can't visualize themselves there having a good time. Hope that helps.

I'd recommend looking at the Architectural Digest site or some back issues for 'idea' shots. Although they are stills, if you look at some of the apparent lighting setups, you can probably make them work for moving pictures.

The basic idea would be to make sure there is detail in every shot, and no large blank, or pretty 'ugly' shaddowed areas. Alternatively, if there are areas of 'darkness', make them interesting with 'pools of light'... think film noir lighting... Say there's a room with deep, dark wood... do something to get a glint on the wood, so that there's a 'richness' to the look...

On the other hand, perhaps a room is better done as 'bright and airy'... etc...
