I was participating in the Spielberg thread, and watched it disintegrate all along, but just now I got on to page 3. And that's where it all really went to hell.

I've administrated message boards before, and I know it's a thankless job. But I have to say that I think you guys really jumped overboard on this one. I'll be the first one to say that the people you banned were trollface assclowns, but I don't think it's really proper etiquette to ban a bunch of people you don't like in a rash, and without warning.

Would those people have ever been valuable in the community? No, probably not. But the insta-ban leaves a real dry taste in my mouth and discourages *me* from feeling comfortable in having real conversations. There's gotta be a better middle ground.
 
well the rules are quite clear that there are to be no personal attacks on others... the mods were following the rules they set up. thats their job. you should respect them and get off their back

I second that. I think it's good for them to be quick to react. Makes life easier for everyone not being punks!
 
In general we give warnings, and people usually follow them. But every once in awhile there will be people who ignore warnings, don't follow the rules, and they're temporarily banned. Jackal got a two week ban. If he wants to come back and respectfully conduct himself and fit in the community he can.

Banning isn't about whether we like a person, it comes down to what's best for the community. I don't think of it as a personal thing, and honestly, not everyone fits in here. Some people need a place where they can have their own soapbox and say whatever they want even if it offends and alienates people. This isn't one of those places.

You're allowed to have an opinion, and you're allowed to respectfully express that opinion, but if you attack other members, and especially moderators, you will not last long here.

This is a great community, and we want to keep it that way.
