Hi All,
This isn't necessarily specific to AE, but this seemed like a good place to ask it.
At work I'm doing some animation in AE that has various lights, vignettes, gaussian blurs, the usual stuff. It's all 16-bit. I export uncompressed tiffs with trillions of colors and bring it into our Smoke (at 12-bit, which is the most Smoke HD allows). The RGB monitor has no issues because it can display all the detail, but of course the vignettes and some blurs or lighting effects show some banding on the TV and the broadcast monitor hooked up to the Smoke. I was under the impression that this is sort of par for the course since broadcast resolution is nowhere near what an RGB monitor can show, so you should just try your best to work at a high quality. Is this the case or is there a way to minimize the banding (besides not using vignettes etc.)? Thanks for your help!
