Band at house party

Does anyone have any ideas or methods on how to approach the lighting of a band at a house party? It's in a Living room, lots of people, at night and probably practicals in the shot.

We are going for very tungsteny and soft yet with seperation between the actors and the walls. china balls? Rim? where and how? We like the natural look of the hotel room in "Eternal Sunshine..."

Thanks.

Fine. I'll answer myself.

Jonnnyh, You'll want to create many planes of light through the depth of the party room. Do this with well controlled light sources off camera right and left, some high and some low perhaps. You can even add some praticals way back in the corners of the room to create another plane. Feel free to go hog-wild with gels as this is a college party and generally college parties have a $5 decorating budget... so make it look like so. Do not use a giant ceiling fill light... this will just ruin the effect your going for and return you a flat boring image.
