Ok, i'm not sure if I'm asking about the right thing but I noticed some tipods have a ball head or something, that makes it easy to make your shots level witout having to adjust the legs, what I was wondering if there any sort of accessory you can buy to give this option to a tripod that doesn't already have it. I have a 501 head with a set of Manfotto 055CLB Legs. I was hoping maybe i could get something to save me some trouble, unfortunately buying a new tripod is not an option at this time.
 
Both Manfrotto/Bogen and Gitzo have similar accessories in their range.
I can't rember their codes, but they shouldn't be difficult to find.

Maybe I'm misreading - but I think he's asking about a gimbal and leveling the head with that instead of adjusting the legs. Am I right Cephalectomy?
 
honestly, i'm not 100 percent sure what i'm looking for...i don't need the level itself because there's one on the 501 head, but i wanted something that would connect to the legs and sit between those and the head that would allow you to level the head without having to mess around with leg adjustment, so basically something that will tilt the head for easy leveling. :)
 
Unless your tripod has a bowl the best device seems to be the Bogen / Manfrotto 3502 Compact Levelling Head that Finnian mentioned. Far better than what I recommended and cheaper.

Trust me once you try a ball leveler you won't believe how you worked without it. Like upgrading your internet connection from dial-up to DSL.

Remove the 501 place the leveler on the tripod base then attach the 501 to the leveler.

ok, i'll look into getting that piece then, i mean i don't mind adjusting the legs a bit but it's a pain that way for being exact, if i could get the general setting and then fine tune with that, i think i could handle that. I have no doubt once you use better gear there's no going back, I just can't afford to upgrade at the moment due to buying a shitload of other accessories to try and get everything i need for a short film i wanna do this summer :) Maybe in 6 months time :) hehe
