Balanced xlr cable wiring?

Hey, I searched for this topic on both the net and the site, and I couldn't find anything. I need to make a 1 foot balanced XLR cable to use for my short shotgun mic so I can mount it on the camera. I have both the balanced cable, and the 3 pin switchcraft XLR connectors, I just need to know how tol solder everything to get it to work right. If someone could maybe draw a diagrame or something it would be REALLY helpful. Thanks!

Re: Balanced xlr cable wiring?

Wire the male and female connectors according to the pin numbers, Read the pin numbers ! Male and female
are mirror images.

1 to 1 shield the braided thin wires
2 to 2 Red (or any color you have)
3 to 3 black (or the other color you have)

make the shield shorter then the two others.

Take care not to let any braided wires be in tuch with
other wires.

Do not cut too deep into the isolation, Do not cut into the
copper leads.

They way I've always done it is....

Blue to pin two. Ground to one. White to three. You can switch the blue or white, just make sure you are consistent on both ends of the cable. Use Canare star quad cable.

I'm definitely a fan of making my own cables. Make sure you use Neutrik connectors.
