My 2009 17" MacBook Pro died last week, cause unknown, diagnosis was a bad logic board. Well past warranty, insurance won't cover it, general story: "hah hah sucks to be me."
The Good Lord and the Internet somehow led me here:

So I horked out the logic board and put it on a baking sheet just after my wife was done with some cinnamon rolls... 375F for 7.5 minutes.
Now I have a working(again) MacBook, an awesome wife, and fresh cinnamon rolls. Doesn't so much suck to be me.
Funny how things turn around. Hopefully this can help someone.
Supposedly the fix is temporary (~6 months to a year or until it overheats again) and I'd be silly to continue to rely on this as my sole machine, but it was a good impetus to finally upgrade and awfully nice that I still have a secondary computer for other business or family tasks.
