Baghead

I just came back from seeing "Baghead" which opened yesterday (in Austin at least).

Seeing as it was shot on the HVX I figured there might be some interest in this movie here.
I thought it was fantastic, personally.
Original, honest, and one of the best efforts I've seen of genre mixing.

The "look" of the film is probably not everyone's cup of tea - but I really like their style.
I'm curious to know people's reactions to it.

It says Sony Pictures classics release but it seems a very limited release. Can't seem to find it showing anywhere.

As a side note. I was in a Jay Duplass short when he / I went to UT Austin and I was in a New Orleans Saints commercial with Steve Zissis, one of the actors.

This is the 2nd film of the Duplass bros. to go to Sundance I think - pretty damn cool.

f*ck. just watched the trailer.

i just had one of those moments where your heart sinks because you've been developing a story about an actor who scrounges up some dough, grabs a camera, and some friends to go out to a cabin to make a no-budget bigfoot horror movie. he convinces his ex-girlfriend (an actress he is still in love with) to star in it so he can use the opportunity to win her back.

you know, one of those moments.

depressing to see something that is more or less the same concept.

always depressing to see someone beat you to a concept.

these guys are super talented. i loved The Puffy Chair and can't wait to see Baghead.

Your kidding me.
Which short?

I've known Jay since I was in college at UT ... small world.
Its a wonder you and I never ran into eachother when you were in Austin.

I think it was his first, ironically titled "The Last" - I think that's right on both counts.

It was a standard film school first or second film assignment, B&W no dialogue ... except they dubbed my one line with somebody else's voice - bastards :)

Ahhh JUST before my time.
I think he was in his second year of film school when we met.

Crazy.

Just goes to show you, You can make a great film on the same cameras that we use. I really love to see "Shot with a DVX" or "Shot on HVX" on any movie that gets critical acclaim. It gives me hope. The last time I looked it had 100% tomatometter at rottentomatoes.com (friday) and that is saying something. I hope it does well. I will buy it when it hits DVD it looks funny.

Checked this film out tonight. It was pretty awesome.

I can't really describe it. It's definitely not shot like a normal film but it's quite entertaining.

I never laughed hard at the comedy but I had a grin on my face the entire time. The characters were really enjoyable and it was just very entertaining.

Acting was very believable. Must have been a lot of improv.
