Bag for the DVX100

Can anyone recommend a bag for the DVX100? I need one ASAP as I am going to London by the end of this month and want to bring the DVX100.
I am looking for one that I can carry with me on the plane. Also I prefer soft to hard as I want to use it when I walk around in the city. But prefer one that offer good protection for the DVX100.

my choice was for 1 hard and 1 soft case. first is branded 'explorer', matte black, sealed, not much bigger than the cam, the other is a cheap chinese 'SUN'. about 170 euro for both.
when travelling, i store it in the hard case so it's safe (and use the soft one for carrying other items). for day by day operations, i use the soft case.
both cases can contain camera, wideangle, mic, cables and filters.

Wonder if I should just fit a regular Timberland backpack with cardbox sides and towels and just go with that...

Towels? get some foam rubber then. Once i did a bag for camera equipment, just padding all sides with 5cm foam rubber and looked fairly safe. but my opinion is that for safe plane/bus/train transportation you want a hard case.

So you won't give bad glances to anybody who pushes his own suitcase over yours in the overhead compartments on the plane :)
with the hard case they can push as hard as they want.

the timberland backpack could work, but it can be just a temporary solution though.

Yikes THATS what I am looking for !!!

I have another Petrol bag but it is so big it can hold a smaller tripod...

Isnt the SUN bag the same thing?? Is it fitted with protection? Do you have a link?
The sun bag is exactly the same of the soft panasonic bag you get sometimes with the camera. definitely the petrol that bighouse showed you is way more resistant (and expensive).
but sorry i dont have a link

I recently went to India and used the "Kata ccc-103".
It's a soft bag that fits nicely over the shoulder and you can pull the camera out quickly when needed. Very simple therefore very light.

I use a Kata R-103 "backpack" with the DVX. It is very portable, and just enough in terms of protection. Good quality. The DVX's mic shock mount would protrude a bit, if I used it.

If I do it again, I'll get a bigger bag.

Does a 15" Mac powerbook fit in the R-103 with the dvx in it? And if you were to go for a bigger one, which one? And would that one be too bulky to carry on a plane?

How exactly did you set up the various compartments to fit your camera and still use the quick access panel? I just bought the R-103 and I can't get it to fit the camera, period. If you could possibly take a photo of your set up I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks.

I use the LowePro Compu Trekker Pus A\W pack that fits both the DVX and 15" powerbook. I can also suspend my tripod on the outside. And if I remember right this one just fits on the aeroplane.

I am aware that this is an old topic that has suddenly been rejuvinated and that the original DVX100 which had to be bagged has probably travelled twice around the world by now. An answer to the question as to what might be the best "bigger" alternative to the Kata 103 may however still be useful. I'd say the Kata HB-207 Hiker Backpack (for which, see http://www.kata-bags.com/Item.asp?pid=273&cid=28&perentId=4&ProdLine=4). I use it and it's great. An even larger alternative from Kata exists, the BP-502 (http://www.kata-bags.com/Item.asp?pid=260&cid=28&perentId=4&ProdLine=4). My reseller actually did not want to sell me that huge backpack protesting that I was just too short. "You have to be something of a tree to carry this or it will look funny." Well, that would not do.

I would say go with the Panasonic CCS-100 soft carrying case manufactured by KATA for Panasonic. It's a well made bag with sturdy sides and good protection. It's made for the DVX100 series of cameras.

Only 59.00 at B&H. Great deal.

Here's a picture of a DVX100 fitted into a Kata R-102/R-103 from Kata's website.

I was considering an R-102/R-103 setup too, so I'd be interested in getting any feedback from the community.

Tks

Is lowepro bag a good choice for video bag?
www.vocaremedia.com

I've got a Lowepro Magnum AW. It houses a DVX100 together with an arri mattebox and a lot of other pieces of euiopment.

It's quite a nice bag - flexible, rugged and convenient, but my impression it doesn't offer as much protection as the Katas. A good pick anyway.
