Hi there, I recently bought the Tascam HD-P2 which came with a free CS-P2 Tascam case. It's good to keep it covered but it's really not very well protected for using in the field (Both for recording production sound and sound gathering).
The two cases I have in mind are the Petrol PEGZ-1 or the PortaBrace AR-HDP2, both of which I can get for about the same price. I've read some great reviews about both PortaBrace and Petrol and both seem to be the 'standard' bags everyone uses.
The PortaBrace is designed specifically for the HD-P2 obviously, so it has holes in all the right places (if you know what i mean...), It also looks like it has a fair amount of extra space in the front for Rx, batteries, mics e.t.c.. But it doesn't look quite as well padded as the Petrol.
The Petrol looks like it has a great deal more space than the PortaBrace, but my main qualm is that I feel like the HD-P2 would rattle around in it, and also the lack of being able to hit the buttons on the top of the recorder. At the moment all that would be going in it is the recorder, headphones and spare batteries... I will probably be using wireless lav systems in the future though.
So my question is, is the Petrol overkill for me, in terms of size for the recorder on it's own (no mixer). Should I go for the Porta, which is specifically designed for the recorder?
Apologies for the long post!
Thanks,
Steve
