I have just come back from filming a wedding in wales. Well I've been doing weddings for 2 years, and completed about 10 weddings.
I've been up and down the UK from Scotland to Glastonbury, even to the 2nd biggest monestry in the UK without a problem.
Until now, weeks before the bride was asked by the priest if they had a video licence.
I said to the bride that I'm sure (From other forums) that it's only needed if using the music from the church. And that I will get one if she wanted one.
The bride got the Licence without replying to me so all is good and she emails me back.
On to the day, and while doing outdoor shots of the church On the public road (i.e busy) the priest just comes right up to me knowing i'm working and starts saying "Are you the Videographer? have you got your licence?" I just say no as I knew the bride was going to be giving it to him the day before which they forgot about.
His Response "Then you can't film without one" I say that I'm not going to be using the music and he still says that you need a licence. I just say "OK Bye then! I'll just go home" Expecting him to allow me in.
But he replies "you can film the outside"
So I then go and find the groom to tell him and they get the licence from somewhere on their person.
This is where the priest is caught on video later when I keep rolling the HD Camera.
But after this, there was more altercations inside the church as he wanted me as far away as possible tooked behind the choir. I ask "What about my alternate camera angle" and he insists I stay in the corner like a child. Later I move with my alternate camera because there's no way I would get the bride into the shot and I told him that, while the service was starting as he said "I told you not to move!" Right! Stay there! Do not move!"
Offcourse I do move because he gets in the way of the camera and I had to go close (Just like every other wedding I have done).
The groom said "well done, I'm glad you moved"
Plus I dont think he's right about needing a licence if you're not using any music.
