Bad nikon mount on LEX

Shot my first commercials with the LEX today, and I have to say it was breath of fresh air compared to my M2. Really sharp, very little vignetting, light efficient. Basically what it says on the box.

However, the nikon mount is of low qualtiy, compared to the mount on the M2, not to mention the mount on Nikon SLRs or macroadapters, it is quite flimsy. The problem that this causes is that it does not lock the lenses tightly enough. Anything longer than a 50mm and a followfocus will cause your lenses to shift/bent in the mount and offset the picture, making rack-focus troublesome. The larger the lens, the worse the effect. If you attach a larger zoom (80-200 for instance) you can see the lens sag/bend downwards at the mount. A lens support would help for up and down movement, but would not help for sideways movement when using a followfocus.

I hope there will be higher quality nikon-mounts available for the LEX soon, as the rest of the adapter is really great.

I don't mean to be the person who allways comes on these forums bashing Letus, because Letus and the LEX is great, but the nikon mount they offer is not., and I think people should know

Another thing about the mount on the LEX is that it's held in place by the pressure from bolts. I really don't like this design because if the bolts become loose the mount can rotate in place or slide inward or outward messing up your backfocus.

The SGpro Nikon Mount is totally locked into place and extremely sturdy. I mounted a 300mm Nikon lens without any flex whatsoever and didn't even feel like I should attach a lens support.

This isn't a bashing post either. I really like the LEX for its sharpness and light efficiency, I just don't like when heavy precision instruments depend on being held securely in place through allen bolt pressure.

Has it ever slipped?

I've had the same experience with the Nikon mount. I think others have reported similarly. A while back I contacted the Letus people and they said they were working on an improved Nikon mount. Recently I sent them another email asking about progress but no response yet.

I agree the Letus Extreme works really well but this is a significant, and seemingly easy to correct, problem.

Let the manufacturers know. I had the same problem with my LE and went through two lens mounts both of which had locking problems.

I can't say much yet but I did want to let you all know that things are in motion that will make Nikon users very happy :)

Future Nikon users? Or current Nikon users?

I've noticed play in my Nikon mount as well, and I need as much of a fix as future customers will :)

I've experienced rotation in the lens mount and in the adapter's grip on the camera. This doesn't happen on the SGpro and is impossible due to the design.

Real strange. I've swapped Mounts countless amounts of times, used an FF, hands to pull focus and never had a slip.

Anyone else want to report a slip? People makin' sure to tighten screws down?

A very important question.

Just installed my FF and when I hit either the end of infinity or macro, my lens turns a bit within the mount.

Wasn't there a fix for this somewhere? Shoving something into the notch of the lens? I'd rather it not come to that, but I've got a project coming up and don't want to deal with the slippage.

I notice you have several different mount types, but it seems to be only the Nikon one specifically that has the problem. You have no looseness or slippage on those?

I do have a little play in my Nikon mount, but not enough to actually effect the image. That might just be me, though. When using my hand I can barely notice it, and it has never effected pulling focus by hand.

When using an FF, it's non existent. I've also never had the mounts slip, turn, rotate, etc. Nor have I had any of the lenses (not even screwmount) rotate inside of the mount and some of my lenses need elbow grease to move the focus ring (which is why I just got some different glass).

PL mount is locktight. M42 is lovely. I'm actually trying to get all M42 lenses because I like Pentax SMC and Takumar glass. Hoping to only use the Nikon mount when renting the unit or whatever.

I have noticed looseness with my Nikon mount as well. I had one very scary incident that I woln't post here. I don't want to freak out any potential buyers since it was a fluke with my Nikon mount.

They are working on an alternative, which makes me really really happy.

mine had the same issue when i first bought it. They then sent me a free replacement and the new one was very sturdy, no play at all.

I have ha numerous hours used on the camera and adapter since then, and now there is starting to have the same play as it used to. hrm.
