Bad drive, bad drive, bad drive...

Ok, my problem:

Using FCP 6 and trying to capture to my Seagate FreeAgent Pro via eSata (Griffin Express 34) connected to my MB Pro OS 10.5.4 - 4g ram.

I keep getting an error code saying "dropped frames" and the capture stops. (used to say "file i/o error" but now that's changed...):furious3:

When I capture to my internal HD, things seem fine. So, I'm capturing there for now (since my time is limited) and transferring the files later. Dumb, right!?

Can someone please help me figure out what I'm doing to sabotage the external drive??
Are there settings that I've messed up? Did I offend the drive somehow?

What penance must I do in order to get this set up to work!?!?:badputer:

HELP!!!

There are apparrent issues with Seagate FreeAgent Pro drives and esata when used with an esata card. I have the same combo, and when sending large files to and from it, it seems to hang every few hundred MB's or so, then resume. I don't use it to capture any more, just to playback and as my time machine drive. Anyway, it has something to do with the firmware on the Seagate's controller card not working well with the esata card. I've used other esata drives on my MBPro esata card and they work fine.

Wow...no kidding. So, can I ask you what drives you've used successfully on eSata? I'd like to get this set up for capturing and if I need to get a new drive, I'd like to do that.

Thanks for your help, btw!

Actually the only other drive I used on it is a g-drive 750gb. There is a benchmarking tool called xbench, and if you use it on the Seagate, you'll see on certain tests it performs miserably. On the g-drive it gets a great all around score, and can transfer large amount of data without freezing up. On the whole, though, for the MacBook Pro I prefer FW800. The speed difference between it and esata isn't much because of hard drive limits (unless you have a RAID array) and it's been much more reliable.
