Backup power for a G-tech hard drive?

will these solve my problem?

will these solve my problem?

these batteries look like options for plugging in the external HD if the power goes out, but I'm looking for something I can have them plugged into so that they don't automatically shut off if the power goes out, some backup battery source that gets activated in that event. someone recommended this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/575798-REG/APC_BE550G_Back_UPS_ES_8_Outlet_550VA.html

you have any thoughts on it?

Oh, yeah, a battery backup is what you need for sure. I use battery backups on my computers. Battery backups are designed to allow for a safe shutdown in the event power is interrupted, so if you're talking about a case of being present while the drive is running, then I'd say that backup is fine. If you think you might not always be present while rendering, writing files, or whatever and you want to be sure of having a more extended period of reserve power look for a larger battery backup with a longer backup runtime.

You know, I hadn't considered the fact I might be running something long and want power to last when i return. What can happen if the power gets quickly cut from an external HD? Will it automatically kill it?

I'd get a UPS and just not hook your computer up to it. Cheap ones are around 50 or 60 bucks. Since that drive uses a very low amount of power it will last a while.
