Backpack for under $130

Are there any backpacks that will hold a DVX, a 12" shotgun mic, and a tripod (pretty small, 3001Pro legs and 3130 fluidhead) for under $130? I have searched a lot, but most of the stuff I find is like $250+ Is my budget reasonable? I don't want to waste my money on something that doesn't have much padding, or won't protect my camera.

Do a search on backpack in this forum and you should find some good suggestions. I won't say your budget is unreasonable - but it is very ambitious. And when you think of what it is protecting, you really don't want to cut too many corners.

I've seen people here reccomend this backpack

Also others have mentioned that there's a Swiss Army bag, but I don't know a link to it.

Perosnally, I just picked up the Kata HB-207, and it has so much room, comes with a tripod holder and is AWESOME. Kata make bulletproof gear and you get lots of extras. Actually, thee next model down, the R-103 goes for around $200 or even a little less. And it comes with the tripod holder as well. Go to the kata website and check it out. I know it's more than you want to spend, but think about how much you paid for what it's protecting.

Good luck!

Do you think if I straped a tripod on the camera bag that it could potentially damage the camera? That's what my parents are saying, and they think I shouldn't spend more than $50 of my own money on a bag to protect nearly $4000 worth of gear. Rediculous?

it depends on the bag. Did you check the links I showed you? The Kata bags I mentioned are designed for it, and from my experience with mine, there' is no way the camera will get damaged - the padding and construction of the bag just won't let it happen. Any decent camera bag should have plenty of padding around it to protect the camera anyway. so a tripod strapped on the outside shouldn't damage it just by hanging there.

Basically, the reality is this is an expensive hobby/profession we are working in and we have to accept that. And if you skimp on ANY aspect of it, be it camera, sound, light, filters, lenses, bags etc then you get what you pay for and the end product - your film - will suffer accordingly.

As to not spending more than $50 on a bag to protect $4000 worth of gear, I think you know the answer to that particular logic...

Are there any stores locally that you can go and actually see a bag and how it's made? It wasn't until I saw my bag in the flesh that I was convinced to buy it.

Might wanna wait until next month when Cinebags releases their new backpack:

I had that OGIO one. It was pretty damn good. I don't know about strapping a tripod to it though.

I, too have the ogio. There are a couple of clips on one side of the bag that you can clip a lightweight tripod to. They are not that wide though and ends up covering a couple of the side pockets and handle. Since it is on the side, it won't be balanced -- I never used it to actually strap to my back - I can't imagine being able to wear it comfortably with any real tripod attached to it.
