backing up your project file

Hello DVX users,
I have heard about the practice of using "save as" to protect your final cut project becoming corrupt by using them as back ups... I'm guessing doing this sort of mimics autosave. My question is, is this a normal practice? How does one get around the fact that if you are versioning up every time you save as, final cut creates new scratch directories every time you rename the project? Or do you just overwrite the old file? And if so, wouldn't that defeat its purpose?

Any thoughts, or explanations of how others keep their project file safe from corrupting would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I simply back up the project onto my external drive, or a thumb drive...at the end of the day. Changing the name messes with the Capture Scratch and render files.

Yah, that's what I thought and why I couldn't understand using the "save as" method. I guess if the project file becomes corrupt, your best option is to go into the autosave vault or hope the duplicate on your external or thumb drive isn't corrupt as well.

What Shane says.

If you want to keep an archive of "snapshots" of your project, you can always copy the first or last autosave of the day to a new location.
