Background Noise

I'm editing on FCP 6.2

I'm sure this is a fairly common issue, but I haven't found any thing directly explaining how to deal with it.

I'm not too experienced with the sound filters in FCP, so a straight forward response would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, I recorded the audio on my lavalier at a low level (-20db) and have been forced to adjust the levels all the way up in order for the audio to be heard. Unfortunately, this also causes the background ambiance to be bumped up as well. There's a lot of white noise interfering with my audio, I would like to know how to remove this or turn it down significantly.

A sample of the clip is on this page. You may have to wait 15 seconds for the clip to load.

Thanks.

You can take the audio into Sound Track Pro and sample the background noise and remove some of it. You can do this as many times as it takes to clean it up but you want to try and remove a little at a time. If you try and do it in one or two aplications you can introduce digital noise. Also you can apply a 32 level equalizer and isolate some of the background noise and bring those levels down.

Good luck.
