Hello,

I actually do not know what's the name of the effect and I have been searching endlessly for the answer on how to do this effect. I am not quite sure if this is the right forum to ask and I did post the same posting in the FCP forum.

I am about to shoot music video soon and one of the effect that I want to incorporate in the music video is where this singer is walking in the middle of a busy crowd in slow motion but the crown around him moves faster. I can't find the example to this but I saw one indonesian director did this in his commercial.

Kindly refer to the link that I provide below.

Would really appreciate if someone could help me with this one...Thanks

By the way I am a FCP 6 user.

For a brief shot, Brickhouse's method is simplest - but think carefully about what movement your central character needs to do, telling them to 'walk real slow' or whatever may sound simple, but the sped-up result may look really fake. A few practice tests first (preferably with the actual actor) are recommended.

You mention this is for a music video - getting the central person to sing (or talk) is surprisingly easy, just pre-create a slowed down version of the lines to then play back for them to pretend to sing/talk along to, so you know it will synch perfectly when you speed up the resulting footage.

For a long shot, you may wish to consider greenscreen - background shot of extras moving past a deliberately empty spot, plus a forground shot of your central person in front of a greenscreen - obviously much easier to put together in post and you can adjust the relative timing to whatever you want, but introduces all greenscreen's potential problems so may not be the best solution.

i often thought about using this type of shot in a video, only sometimes its hard to find a creative and patient artist to work with that doesn't mind doing a bit extra to add to their music video.good post guys.

Here is a way to achieve this effect. I found it in a book called "Digital Video Production Cookbook". by OReilly. A really useful book i must say. Anyhoo, here are scans of the two pages illustrating how to do this effect.

Hopefully this helps some.
