Background Color??

I have a FCP question that I can't seem to figure out. I am inserting a logo as a title in my sequence, but the logo is much smaller than the screen size so I automatically get black around the edges. The problem is I need white around this logo. I can find where to change the color in the viewer etc.. but this does not change it in the sequence...Any ideas??....I don't have photoshop either.. Thanks!

If it is a black square around the logo that would mean that the image does not have any type of alpha channel or transparency. trouble is, without Photoshop I guess I wouldn't know how to go about editing it. hopefully someone can chime in of how to do it without Photoshop. talk to the person that gave you the logo (assuming you didn't make it) see if they can get you a tif with the logo cut out and transparency saved.

on second thought...you could see what you can accomplish with a couple eight point garbage mattes. depends on how crazy the logo is. Filters->Matte->Eight-Point Garbage Matte. i dont know?

I don't know if I fully understand your dilemna ulness I saw a screenshot, but I know that you can put a white background behind the layer (it is an effect). If the logo itself is black then you could try keying/masking with some of the filters. You could also make an image the size of your video ntsc>720x480 and insert the image on a white background. Most photo editing programs can do this including iphoto. Hope it goes well.

Any idea how to put a white background behind the layer? I still have not got any of the filters to go onto the background, they will only go onto the image.

In the viewer, click on the little "A" icon at bottom right...drag down to Matte...select solid color...select white...drag it, or insert it "replace" on a new track underneath your logo. You'll therefore have white to put whatever on top of.

Ya that does seem like a pretty silly way to make a color background through the matte route, but oh well.

I guess I'm a little late to this one but what you could also do, if the image has a black background, you could put a chromakey filter on it and select the color black to be transparent. Then set the color box in the viewer to white and but that underneath. Might get better results than a garbage matte.
