Back up storage

Hi guys,

I have been working as part of a production studio for quite a while now and one issue that we have is backing up completed video project. I'm wondering what you guys do..

It seems to me that a back up tape drive is the best way to archive finnished projects as its cheaper than hard drives and less unreliable (dammageable).

Am i right or is there something else i'm missing. Hard drives seem a bit expensive for the time being as once there full i won't be deleting this data and ever re using them

thanks

The guys over at the Pixel Corps use the following:

http://www.wiebetech.com/products/satadock.php

http://www.wiebetech.com/products/cases.php

They buy bare 500gb SATA drives, connect them with the SataDock, then load them up with data. Then they put them in the plastic cases, and shelve them. They go through about 2 terabytes of video each week... so if it's good enough for them, it should work for you. :)

You know there will still be SATA drives far into the future... look how long IDE has lasted. I'd keep my archives on something that is accessible on any computer in the future. And better yet... make 2 backups!
