Back-up battery t'ain't working

I've just bought a CyberPower CP350SLG 350VA for a backup to my handycam. Problem is, it appears it wants to be plugged in before sending power to the outlets. Of course, that isn't going to work in the field.
I've a last option I've not tried - plugging it into itself.
What does everything think?

That product is not designed to work as you intend it to. It is a UPS, not a portable power source. It is working as the manufacturer intended. Return the item and buy a product designed as a portable power unit.

See the 5th item in the Probable Cause column of the troubleshooting chart on page one of the user manual.

Hmm. I was advised at this forum to buy one.
What's to stop simply splicing the camera's 7.2VDC adapter's wire and running it to a battery pack?

Thanks

Where? Your best bet would be to go back and ask them how they get it to work.

Sure, you could do that. I have done that myself. I have made a battery pack with 5 batteries (=7.5V) to operate a camera like that.

You really have to watch out for proper polarity when you do things like that. Double and triple check it. Very, very, important. or else........POOF !!
