I just bought my Oktava MK012. Do I absolutely need a BBG or can I live without one for a while? The wife has been keeping a pretty close eye on the books lately.

It depends on how much you will be moving it. If you are filming static shots indoors where you wont be moving the boom then you could get away with just foam, but you'll want the BBG asap. I've got both and the BBG does make a huge difference. Btw, I thought I had met most of the filmmakers in Portland but I don't recall meeting you. I'm Shawn Nelson from www.nelsonentertainment.com.

The Rycote BBG is a complete waste of money. You do not need this indoors.

The Schoeps B 5 D is much better. I have not seen one professional use it in the field or on a set.

I own a BBG and it is not a complete waste of money, it works very well and you can get a windjammer for it and it will work great outside in wind.
