B&W questions

Here it goes, my first post,
I'm a DP for a comedy short meant to be in black and white. Just got done doing some normal tests in my kitchen with natural light then converting it to BW via PremierPro. I've messed with bright/cont, gamma, posterize, tint, etc etc and it all looks ok. My question is: should I be doing anything before i shoot? Such as whitebalancing at a certain level or shooting at a certain shutterspeed (such as overexposing, then correcting in post for a grainy look)? maybe messing with the scene settings (master pedastal, etc) for a richer B&W look? No real problems here, just wondering if anyone out there has had experience shooting for B&W and if any advice is offered. thanks, this site has been incredibly informative.

just shoot normally payig attention to exposure, and then desaturate and perhaps add a little contrast in post.

Ok, so im a film student and from what i hear... You should push up the greens in the image and when you convert it to B and W you will have a richer and better looking image.

Good luck.

When you say push up the greens, do you mean add more green to the screen like in costumes and sets (I heard they did this in Schindler's List. They said they had a horrible looking color film but a beautiful looking b&w film).

Or do you mean push up the greens as in in camera settings? Should I push the chroma phase towards the green and choose Cine-Like (which emphasizes green).
