B&H Blows

Re: B&H Blows

B&H would be the best place to shop for electonics if the client would not mind to be treated like an ashole from time to time.
I dont. I mean I dont have a choice. I just let them do it cos this is how they do bussiness. From time to time.

Re: B&H Blows

I dont know.. im from Kansas I been to New York a few times and was treated pretty well by indigenous white Anglos and selective imigrants. I think its more of a cultural issue from different sects not that Jewish people are the only ones guilty of the bad attitudes. Of course jewish people whom are more americanized seem to be more civil... to be truthful.

hmmmmm. that's a pretty big generalization. Do you know a lot of israeli people? I wouldnt think Kansas would have too many Israeli's...

As for Hassidim (aka orthodox jews), they lead very different lives. Many of them are somewhat detached from society and unfortunately come off as rude and greedy. Others live peaceful lives of prayer, generally away from the rest of society. I think it's a pity that some of them tend to act this way, but this is only a rare few. Living in San Francisco, I've seen many shop vendors acting exactly the same way from all different cultures. I'm in no way in favor of the way they treat customers, but I dont think generalizations like "only americanized jews are civil." That's ridiculous...

Re: B&H Blows

i didnt mean to make anyone angry.. I was just trying to say that New York isnt all together filled with angry folks. I was just saying that people who have assimilated willingly to the united states culture are more friendly it seems.. Actualy Dan i was trying to make excuses I guess for your people.. Saying that americanized jews seem friendlier...Sorry

As stated above.. I wasnt saying it was exclusivley jews either as other ethnics would rather have nothing to do with anyone or anything outside of their world..

Re: B&H Blows

no worries fred. nobody angry here ;D
BTW I'm not religious. I cant even remember the last time I said any kind of prayer. I just associate myself with jewish culture because A) I was born in Israel and B) my parents are.

I guess you've just had negative experiences with other "unamericanized" cultures... that's a shame  :-/

Re: B&H Blows

Actually, folks, this is indeed getting pretty offensive.

Every culture is a different way of being, with benefits and deficits. As a New Yorker stuck out in Los Angeles, I can tell you that I suffer from culture shock every day... even after 8 years. But I find ways to enjoy the differences, or at least see their benefits. B&H obviously provides something many people want, whether it be prices or inventory or, dare I say it, customer service (compared to others offering similar prices)... so, learn to live with the quirks or take a pass on the benefits. For me, a pretty American fellow from NY, I'd say I'd much rather deal with disinterested service than cloying or pushy service. I appreciate a brush-off or an "I don't know" much more than what most places here in LA give me - long, stuttering, meaningless, or patently false explanations with a friendly, knowing smile. In New York, life is fast-paced and people are direct, and everyone deals with it... busy people appreciate it. Unlike many other places, at B&H you CAN find someone with real knowledge and expertise... you just may have to work a bit.

Without Japanese culture, which I can say from even a short time working with a Japanese technology company has far more off-putting cultural differences, we wouldn't have affordable quality electronics like, say, the DVX100. People frequently complain here about, say, the pathetic documentation Panasonic provides, but see clearly that the end-product is worth the foibles.

As for Fred, I'm sorry to say this, but B&H serves and interacts with hundreds of thousands of customers of all ethnicities. Your statement:
I wasnt saying it was exclusivley jews either as other ethnics would rather have nothing to do with anyone or anything outside of their world...
seems far more applicable to you than to them.

Re: B&H Blows

I'm about to order 6400 dollars worth of stuff from EVS. I will figure out how to pay for it later :-[

Re: B&H Blows

Hey Rush you got any old 100's you wanna maybe toss off the back of a truck? B&H may not blow, but I might...

Re: B&H Blows

I've ordered several items from B&H and everything worked out just fine. The attitude was good to kind of "New York - let's get this done." I don't attibute the attitude to Jewish-ness (is that a word?), but more to living in the Big Apple. Hey sometimes it's a dog eat dog city, but I've run into some real nice folks there too.

Many years ago when I was living in Ohio, and it was my first visit to NYC, I had to cash some traveler's checks to buy my ticket out of the city. I was at Grand Central and I went to a bar to do the deal. The bartender looked at my Ohio ID and asked if I grew potatoes back in Ohio. I wanted to ask him if as a New Yorker if he mugged old ladies or sold smack to school kids, but I need the money for the train ticket. ;)

New York is a great place and I hope I haven't offended any Ne Yorrkers. I love going into "the city". There's no place like it.

Re: B&H Blows

I have worked with B and H and they were just fine. I did a test on EVS and tried to see what their turn around was on a quote and how personable they are, and they were very responsive. I am planning on running with EVS, possibly for the entire 15k order I am running through in the next several months.
